We’re getting mixed signals about ex-Packer Desmond Bishop.
Yesterday, Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams said the linebacker was asked about his expectations for Bishop. His response: “I know that there will still be some rust on him in terms of live football, but we still have three weeks to go and time is on our side in that respect. So I’m not going to put on any new pressure on him, just let him compete and he’s doing that.”
Coach Leslie Frazier, meanwhile, is saying something a bit different about Bishop, who missed last Friday’s preseason opener against Houston with a groin pull.
Frazier told the Star Tribune that the next two weeks is critical for Bishop, implying that time is running out: “This is going to determine whether or not he makes our team,” Frazier said. “It’s a big two weeks for him. He needs to show us he can help our football team in order to make our team.”
Bishop hasn’t played in an NFL game in more than a year, when he injured a hamstring in a preseason game with the Packers. He’s expected to make his Vikings debut Friday night in Buffalo.
While Williams and Frazier may be contradicting each other in separate media sessions, it’s clear Bishop knows what his next move will be: to impress those who need to be impressed.
“Everyone knew it was going to be an adjustment all that stuff,” Bishop told Fox Sports North on Monday. “At the end of the day, I think I can play this game at a real high level. So, hopefully that gets me where I need to get.”
Muscially speaking, the debate of “time running out” versus “time on our side” has also been observed internally by the Rolling Stones. With mixed results.
