Derrick Rose turned back the clock on Halloween night and scored a career-high 50 points to lead the Wolves to a 128-125 win over the Utah Jazz.
With Jeff Teague (knee), Tyus Jones (foot) and Jimmy Butler (belligerence) out of the lineup, Rose took over and dominated like it was 2010-11, when he was the league MVP with the Chicago Bulls.
Rose was among the best players in the NBA until injuries attacked him in 2012 (torn ACL), 2013 (torn meniscus) and 2015 (torn meniscus).
He spent the 2016 season with the Knicks and then hooked up with LeBron James and the Cavaliers in 2017 before taking a leave of absence from the team.
Cleveland traded him to Utah. Utah released him. Minnesota signed him and it eventually led to his incredible performance Wednesday night, after which Rose let all of his emotions go.
“I played my heart out,” Rose said. “My teammates told me before the game, just play my game. And tonight was a hell of a night.”
Rose said words couldn’t describe how he was feeling, but to play again like he knows he’s always been capable of, that was sweet.
“It’s all just coming together,” Rose said. “But it took six, seven years.”
He added: “But, for me, it’s only the beginning.”
