It was just under eight months ago Delmon Young signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Today marks his last day with the organization.
With just four and a half months in the NL East under his belt, Young was released today by the struggling Phils, after refusing an assignment to Triple A Lehigh Valley.
The former Twin was designated for assignment last week, and after clearing waivers yesterday, did not report to the minors.
Young is just 10 months removed from an ALCS MVP in the Tigers series against the Yankees in the 2012 postseason, and is a career .281 hitter.
He hit just .261 with Philadelphia while striking out 69 times in 276 at-bats.
GM Ruben Amaro Jr. was vocal about Young’s time with Philadelphia, saying he believes Young is a better player than he showed.
Finishing tenth in the AL in MVP voting in 2010 with Minnesota, his post-Twins career has been marred with unfulfilled expectations and legal trouble.
It culminates today with a jobless Delmon Young.
