Gov. Mark Dayton changed Minnesota’s stadium discussion on Monday when he called Zygi Wilf to say it’s the Metrodome site or nothing in this year’s legislative session.
The Star Tribune reports a Friday meeting with Rev. John Bauer convinced the governor that concerns about a site next to the Basilica of St. Mary could not be resolved in time. The paper also reports that the House leader of the stadium effort, Rep. Morrie Lanning (R-Moorhead), has not given up on the Arden Hills site.
Politics in Minnesota has Dayton saying it was Zygi and Mark Wilf who requested the meeting and that Zygi was frustrated but not angry during their phone conversation.
Building on the Metrodome site would require the Vikings to play a few seasons at the U of M’s TCF Bank Stadium. A university official tells the Pioneer Press the school hasn’t heard from the Vikes but is ready and willing to talk at a moment’s notice.
