Dalvin Cook has had just 10 carries since suffering a hamstring injury against the Packers in Week 2. That number will undoubtedly be rising as he gets healthier, which might be as soon as this Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
“I feel great. I know y’all are going to ask me if I’m playing, but I’ve been practicing all week,” Cook said Thursday.
“You’ll have to ask Coach Zim’ if I’m playing. I feel great, confident, and at myself right now. They got me back to where I need to be, so I’ve just got to keep striving and stacking the days.”
Cook is officially listed questionable for Sunday’s game, as are four other starters: wide receiver Stefon Diggs (ribs), cornerback Xavier Rhodes (foot), safety Andrew Sendejo (groin) and left tackle Riley Reiff (foot).
According to the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling, the plan is to have Cook play a limited number of snaps this Sunday. Of course, that was the plan a few weeks ago against the Cardinals, but Cook tweaked him hammy during pregame warmups and was deactivated for the game.
If there was ever a week to return, it’s this week. The Lions are allowing an NFL-worst 144.6 rushing yards per game.
Diggs returned to practice on Friday, a good sign that he’ll live up to what he said wearlier this week when he virtually guaranteed that he won’t miss this week’s game with a rib injury.
Meanwhile, linebacker Anthony Barr (hamstring), left guard Tom Compton (knee) and running back Roc Thomas (hamstring) will not play.
