The Vikings dodged Aaron Rodgers Sunday in Green Bay, instead facing a combination of Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn and managing a tie against the rival Packers.
This Sunday, Minnesota will miss another NFC North starter, as Jay Cutler has been ruled out by head coach Marc Trestman for the Bears visit to the Metrodome.
Josh McCown has filled in admirably for Cutler, throwing seven touchdowns to just one interception this year, but the Bears went down at the hands of St. Louis yesterday, a minor upset that thwarted Chicago’s chance of taking the division lead by themselves.
Chicago is 2-1 in McCown starts, while losing both games McCown has relieved Cutler due to injury.
In other news, the battered and bruised Bears defense will be without star linebacker Lance Briggs Sunday as well, who suffered a shoulder injury in October and has not returned.
Chicago is ranked last in the league in rush defense, and the absence of Briggs combined with AP in the Vikings backfield will not boost their hopes of improving.
By the way, the aforementioned Rodgers will likely miss Thrusday’s Thanksgiving game against the Lions, head coach Mike McCarthy said today.
Rodgers continues to recover from a broken collarbone, and the division continues to struggle with QB injuries.
