Cris Carter isn’t alone when it comes to the thousands, maybe even millions, of people who thought Adrian Peterson was washed up, but Carter is now admitting he was wrong.
Carter admitted so after watching Peterson rumble 64 yards to the end zone for his second touchdown to lead the Washington Redskins over the New York Giants on Sunday. Peterson finished the day with 149 rushing yards while scoring one of his touchdowns on a reception.

For the season, Peterson is fifth in the NFL with 587 rushing yards, and if you take away two games where he was barely used, against the Colts and Saints, he’s averaging 112.2 yards per game.
- Week 1: 26 carries, 96 yards
- Week 2: 11 carries, 20 yards
- Week 3: 19 carries, 120 yards
- Week 5: 4 carries, 6 yards
- Week 6: 17 carries, 97 yards
- Week 7: 24 carries, 99 yards
- Week 8: 26 carries, 149 yards
He’s on pace for 1,342 yards, which is one yard more than he rushed for as a rookie with the Vikings in 2007.
Carter irked Peterson after the ageless running back signed with Washington during training camp, using his platform on Fox Sports to say Peterson was making a mistake similar to the way Carter did when his career crawled to a halt in one final year with the Dolphins.
“Did you see me in a Dolphins uniform? I had no business playing that season,” said Carter on FS1. “I wouldn’t have admitted it, either. Adrian had better get over himself. We were all great. But at the end, we all smelled like a baby’s diaper.”
“I don’t know what it is with him. I have no clue, I can’t pinpoint and put my hand on one thing,” Peterson told Pro Football Talk after hearing of Carter’s comment.
“We played different positions. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I got more career yards than him at Minnesota. I don’t know what it is. I haven’t wrapped my mind around it but at the end of the day, he’s one person and I just try to block him out and just whatever it is what it is.”
