Devan Dubnyk turned away rookie Mike Hoffman in the fifth round of a shootout Tuesday night to pull out a 3-2 victory over Ottawa at the Xcel Energy Center.
Seconds earlier, Charlie Coyle beat Ottawa goaltender Andrew Hammond to give the advantage to Minnesota.
It was a strange night. After a scoreless first period, the Wild claimed a 2-0 lead on a pair of second period goals by defenseman Matt Dumba – his fifth and sixth goals of the season.

But the lead was short-lived. Less than 30 seconds after Dumba gave the Wild the two-goal lead, Mika Zibanejad cut it back to one when he beat Dubnyk.
Before the end of the second, the Senators tied it on Bobby Ryan’s 16th goal of the season.
The teams went scoreless again in the third and overtime, leading to the shootout. Dubnyk stopped 31 shots, while Hammond finished with 36.
The Wild head for Washington where they will play the Capitals Thursday night.
