Much of the attention for Vikings fans has been spent on talking about quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel. But another one could be emerging as a favorite of several teams as we head towards draft day.
Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr could quietly be sneaking up the lists on the draft boards of many teams, according to a CBS Sports NFL Draft report.
Carr believes – based on what he has been told by GMs and coaches as well – that he’ll end up being taken in the first round and could go ahead of several of the other top quarterbacks in the draft.
“I would say there’s a very good chance,” Carr said in an interview with Pro Football Talk. “Just from what coaches have told me, something I’ve heard from General Managers. I’d say that the chances of it happening are very good.”
He is the younger brother of another former number one pick. David Carr was drafted by the Texans number one overall in 2002.
Carr led the FBS by throwing for 5,083 yards and 50 touchdowns in 2013. He believes he is “absolutely” the best quarterback in the draft.

The CBS Sports report says the Vikings are a potentially interesting fit for Carr, but Minnesota will have to wait as the Texans, Jaguars, Browns and Raiders all pick before the Vikings and are thought to have a need at quarterback.
The Vikings did attend Carr’s pro day. Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner said he was impressed with the Fresno State quarterback’s accuracy.
Then there’s this. On the Dan Patrick Show, Friday, Carr said he chose No. 4 in college because he likes Brett Favre.
“I’m a big Brett Favre fan,” Carr said. “The way he played. Even when it seemed like he was 60-years-old.”
Maybe, after May 8, Carr could be wearing the same No. 4 that Favre last wore in the NFL.
