Five-star basketball recruit Rashad Vaughn won’t play his senior season at Robbinsdale Cooper, his mentor, Pete Kaffey, told the Pioneer Press Monday.
“The kid has to move on and do what’s best for him,” said Kaffey. “The decision has been made for a while, but we decided to wait because there were a lot of things going on. The kid is a gym rat, so he needs access to the gym as much as he can. He also needed to play against better competition.”
At 6-5, 200-pounds, Vaughn is rated the No. 6 player in the country for the class of 2014 by Rivals.
Vaughn is a top target for first-year Gophers head coach Richard Pitino.
“The Gophers still have a good shot with him,” Kaffey said. “(Pitino) is doing a good job recruiting him.”
Vaughn, along with DeLaSalle forward Reid Travis and Apple Valley point guard Tyus Jones form what many are calling the “Big Three” Minnesota recruits for the class of 2014.
