Both teams were lighting the lamp early and often Friday night, but the Gophers didn’t have the fire power to keep pace with Michigan. The Wolverines beat the Gophers 8-3 on Friday in Michigan.
Both teams scored in the games first 30 seconds, but in the end it was the Wolverines, who had run away with it.
Michigan freshman Kyle Conner had a hat trick and an assist on the night. While sophomore Tyler Motte also had four points with a pair of goals and two assists.
Zach Werenski and JT Compher each had two assists.
Hudson Fasching had two of the three Gopher goals.
Minnesota will try to rebound when the series continues Saturday in Ann Arbor.
North Dakota shuts out UMD
The University of Minnesota Duluth couldn’t handle the fight against Fighting Hawks goaltender Cam Johnson. Johnson made 40 saves shutting out the Bulldogs 3-0 at Amsoil Arena in Duluth.
Cam Johnson has UND's first back-to-back shutouts since Aaron Dell did it 12/30/10 at Minnesota Duluth and 1/7/11 vs. Robert Morris.
