Gophers suffer blowout at in East Lansing
The proof was in the power play as the Gophers were sent packing with a blowout loss to Michigan State. While the Spartans made good on 2 of their 3 advantage opportunities, Minnesota went 0 for 5.
Despite pressing hard with 28 shots to Michigan’s 23, Minnesota couldn’t overcome the Spartans’ tough defense, who out-blocked Minnesota by more than 10 stops.
The goalie battle was similarly lopsided. The Gophers sent starting goalie Eric Schierhorn for freshman backup Brock Kautz in the second period after the starter allowed 3 goals, but the swap didn’t stop the bleeding. Jake Hildebrand manned the shutout for Michigan State.
