The Vikings’ three-day mandatory mini-camp came to close on Thursday, and head coach Leslie Frazier left feeling good about his starting quarterback, Christian Ponder.
“He’s more vocal than he has been in the past,” Frazier said of Ponder to the Pioneer Press. “His football above the neck has been impressive in the time that we’ve been out here on the field practicing. He’s got the athletic ability, but you want him to make good decisions under the center, and some of the things he’s done in these practices kind of leads me to believe, along with our staff, that he’s grown a lot in that area.”
According to Yahoo! Sports, wide receiver Greg Jennings says the “sky’s the limit” once he and Ponder develop trust together.
Other mini-camp notes:
- Rookie defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd is being used as a backup to Kevin Williams.
- Safety Harrison Smith could provide leadership in the secondary, even though he’s only a second year player.
- Defensive coordinator Alan Williams is excited about the flexibility big cornerbacks Chris Cook and Xavier Rhodes provide the defense.
