Twins backup catcher Chris Gimenez made another appearance on the mound Tuesday. He pitched a 1-2-3 inning on nine pitches in Minnesota’s 12-3 loss to Seattle.
He even got former All-Star Kyle Seager to fly out to the warning track.

Former ESPN writer, Jayson Stark said Gimenez is the first position player to make four appearances on the mound in a season since Bob Bowman in 1959.
However, the records and quirks don’t stop there. Utility infielder Eduardo Escobar suited up and caught Gimenez’s inning of relief. It was the first time in Escobar’s professional career that he was catching, according to the Star Tribune.
Baseball Prospectus’ Aaron Gleeman also pointed out that Gimenez’s 6.00 ERA is nearly as “good” as the team’s bullpen ERA of 5.32, which ranks dead last in the majors.
In four appearances on the mound this season, Gimenez has allowed two hits and two runs. The backup catcher has a better figure than many of the team’s pitchers this season.
