The longest active winning streak in the American League came to an end on Tuesday night, when the Oakland A’s beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1, at Target Field.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Twins.
Minnesota wasn’t able to figure out A’s starter Jesse Chavez. The only run Chavez allowed in 7 1/3 innings was unearned, as he held the Twins to four hits and struck out seven on the night.

It was Chavez’s first victory of the season.
Oakland took the early lead when Billy Butler drove in Billy Burns in the first inning. The game then stayed 1-0 until the sixth inning, when the A’s added one more on a single from Brett Lawrie to take the 2-0 lead.
The Twins battled back in the eighth. Brian Dozier came up with a big one-out hit to score Jordan Schafer. But Minnesota failed to get the tying run to cross the plate as closer Tyler Clippard came on to strike out Torii Hunter and got Joe Mauer to fly out to escape the jam.
Trevor May (2-2) was tough for the Twins, holding the A’s to two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. May struck out three and walked two on the evening, but it wasn’t good enough.
