Led by Cordarrelle Patterson and a 100-yard performance from running back spot-starter Matt Asiata, the Minnesota Vikings sent the Metrodome off with a win Sunday.
It wasn’t Matt Cassel’s best game, but after the contest he was just happy to lead Minnesota to another victory.
Here’s what he said to say to the media in his press conference, including answering questions about his future, as he is a free agent after this season.
“A great win for us, any time you’re able to close out the Metrodome like that, it’s outstanding. I’m sure a lot of our fans have great experiences here, so we were happy to get a win here against a division rival. I know on paper it says that we’re not playing for much, but everybody gave their heart and it was an exciting win.”
On Patterson: “Cordarrelle has done a tremendous job throughout the year of growing as a player. He has tremendous physical attributes, and then it’s just him learning and playing more football. For him, as long as he continues to work, the sky is the limit.”
On his future: “Way too early to think about it, but I love playing for the Minnesota Vikings. The fan base is amazing, the team was special, a great team to play for. I really enjoyed my time here, my wife, my kids, a great community. Would I love to be a Minnesota Viking? Without a doubt.”
On Leslie Frazier: “I enjoyed playing for Leslie all year, he came in every day with a demeanor to try and get this team ready to play. He was consistent about how he went about his business. He always continued to motivate, I think Leslie is a great coach.”
On rising above personnel decisions and not starting all year: “We’re all blessed to play this game, we’re the one percent that is lucky enough to come out here on Sundays 16 weeks out of the year and play in front of fans that love us. It’s a blessing, you have to take that approach as opposed as looking at it like you’re being slighted.”
“It was a big day to go out and get a win, it’s what everyone deserved.”
