Unless one of his former neighbors shoveled his driveway after a big Minnesota snowstorm, nothing comes easy for former Vikings quarterback Case Keenum.
Keenum is no stranger to being overlooked. This season, he’s entering the first year of a two-year, $36 million contract as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Still, people keep getting his name wrong.
First, Broncos great and current executive vice president John Elway called him Case “Keesum” when he introduced him, and on Friday it was NBC Sports reporter Heather Cox referring to him “Chase” – twice.

Worst part is, I’ve known Case since covering him in college & have covered him in the NFL. No excuse… I blew it. Didn’t even know I’d done it till after the interview. My apologies @casekeenum7 How about you call me Holly tomorrow and we’ll call it good?!?

It’s really not that hard. His name is just three syllables, none of which are hard to pronounce. But that’s the way it goes for a guy who was hardly recruited out of high school, was undrafted despite setting the NCAA record for passing yards, and couldn’t get a second look from head coach Mike Zimmer even though he led the Vikings all the way to the NFC title game.
Not to mention the fact that Keenum has the ultimate respect from his peers, being voted the 50th-best player in the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2018 list. That’s more than 40 spots higher than the guy who the Vikings replaced him with, Kirk Cousins.
