Welcome to Twins Territory, kids.
It’s twin girls for Minnesota Twin Joe Mauer and his wife, Maddie.
According to Twins P.R. Guy Dustin Morse, the Mauer household went with Em and M:
MT @twins_morsecode: Congrats to Maddie & Joe Mauer on their new baby girls – Emily & Maren Mauer! Born early this morning! #MauerTwins
— Pioneer Press (@PioneerPress) July 24, 2013
Mauer flew home from Los Angeles yesterday on a charter to be with his wife. Maddie Mauer was due on Aug. 31, but she went into labor about six weeks early, according to KSTP.
Morse, in another tweet this afternoon, revealed that Mauer slid into the delivery room with a few minutes to spare:
Joe Mauer got to the hospital at 3:05 am & his girls – Maren Virginia & Emily Teresa were born 30 minutes later. #MauerTwins #MNTwins

If you’re keeping score on baby names, Emily is No. 14 on the list of most popular names for girls in Minnesota. Maren isn’t in the Top 100, but we’re guessing that’ll change in a year or two.
As for the Twins, they didn’t seem to miss Mauer too much last night. His replacement, Chris Herrmann, smacked a grand slam in the 10th inning to power Minnesota to a 10-3 win over the Angels.
Drew Butera, meanwhile, will join the team today in Anaheim to replace Mauer on the active roster. Mauer is now on paternity leave (24 to 72 hours, according to RotoWorld.com).
Back to the babies: Among the funnier comments so far on Twitter (everybody’s a comedian), belongs to RandballsStu, via the Star Tribune:

The best tweet goes to WCCO’s Jason DeRusha, who has Little Marky Rosen making the Royal Announcement:
