The Twins head into the All-Star break on a winning note after taking a series in Yankee Stadium for the first time in a dozen years.
And they put together their first winning streak in nearly a month by beating a nemesis pitcher, C.C. Sabathia. The Twins scored eight times off of Sabathia, including five unearned runs. It was their first victory over him since 2007, a stretch including 13 starts that were unlucky for Minnesota.
The Star Tribune notes the ten runs equal Minnesota’s output of their four previous games combined.
Aaron Hicks hit a three-run homer, raising his batting average near .200, after seeing it fall below .050 in the spring. Justin Morneau had three hits. Pedro Florimon, Trevor Plouffe, and Brian Dozier each contributed a pair.
Pitcher Kyle Gibson worked five innings to even his record at 2-2.
The All-Star break will be just that for all of the Twins except catcher Joe Mauer and reliever Glen Perkins, who will represent Minnesota at the mid-summer classic in New York.
When the Twins take the field again on Friday against the Cleveland Indians they’ll have a slightly different look. They announced after the game that Oswaldo Arcia, Chris Parmelee, and Eduardo Escobar have all been sent down to their top minor league team in Rochester.
