Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a right hip strain. According to manager Rocco Baldelli, Buxton will be out for “weeks” with the injury and the team has called up 2018 first-round pick Trevor Larnach to take his place.
The injury to Buxton comes at a tough time as he was off to a blazing start this season. Buxton is hitting .370 with nine home runs and 17 RBI this season, and won the American League Player of the Month Award for April.
Buxton’s absence is more bad news for a Twins lineup that has been hit hard by injury. Josh Donaldson and Miguel Sanó have spent time on the injured list this season and top prospect Alex Kirilloff went on the IL earlier this week with a wrist injury.
With Buxton the latest player to land on the injured list, the Twins will hope that Larnach can provide a boost.
