The wrist injury that kept Twins prospect Byron Buxton out for more than six weeks this spring has reared its ugly head.
LaVelle Neal III of the Star Tribune reports that Buxton aggravated the same wrist injury that kept him out of the lineup from until he recently returned to action on May 4. He originally suffered the injury when he attempted to make a diving catch during a spring training game on March 16.
The aggravation was found after Buxton underwent an MRI and met with a hand specialist in the Twin Cities. Until he is cleared to play in games, Buxton will work out at extended spring training in Fort Myers, Florida.
“It’s always disappointing,” Twins Assistant General Manager Rob Antony said. “It’s disappointing that (Miguel) Sano is missing the season as well. Now Buxton. Losing out on development time is a big thing.”
Sano is out after undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery.
According to CBS Sports, Buxton was named the top prospect in baseball by every major baseball publication this spring.
