Happy Monday! Well, if you’re a Timberwolves or Wild fan, it was rough weekend. If you’re a Gopher basketball fan, it’s time to dance! In the NIT. So, is there anything to shout about? We’ll take that Sunday Twins win over the Yankees. Hey, it’s only spring training, but at this point we’ll take it. With that, here’ are the Top 5 stories we’re watching this fine Monday:
1) The Timberwolves, without Ricky Rubio for the rest of the season, start a crucial seven-game road trip tonight in Phoenix. Minnesota is back at .500 after back-to-back home losses to the Lakers and Hornets. They’re also 1.5 games out of a playoff spot. Bottom line: Figure out new ways to win, or else it’s another May on the golf course.
2)The basketball Gophers are going to the NIT? Wait a second, we thought they needed two wins in the Big 10 tournament to make it to the second-tier basketball tournament? Looks like the NIT brass were just bluffing. One was enough. As a result, the Gophers head to La Salle for their Wednesday night showdown.
3) OK, it was so nice out Sunday that you didn’t bother to watch the CBS selection show. So which teams are in which brackets for the real (NCAA) tournament? Here’s the complete rundown.
4) Without a doubt, you have to love what Benilde-St. Margaret’s did Saturday night — winning the Class 2A title for Jack Jablonski. Prep sports doesn’t get any better. We also want to make sure that Jordan Kloosgets props, too. The Lakeville South standout is Mr. Hockey 2012.
5) Today: Twins @ Rays as spring training 2012 cruises along. Sunday, a nifty 5-1 win over the Evil Empire. Love to see that any day of the year, even if the games don’t count.
