While Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater admits he’s excited to have Adrian Peterson back in the backfield, Minnesota’s second-year quarterback is doing his best not raise the expectations too much.
Earlier this week, Monday Morning Quarterback’s Peter King listed the Vikings sixth in his offseason power rankings – clearly demonstrating a belief that Peterson will make a big difference for Minnesota after their 7-and-9 season, mostly without Peterson, last year.
But Bridgewater tells the Pioneer Press he thinks it’s too early to start labeling the Vikings as contenders.

“It’s easy to sit here and say how good we can be, but it’s early June and it’s too early to tell,” Bridgewater told the newspaper Wednesday. “We have to just continue to get better each day right now. We know that we can’t win the championship in June, so we just have to continue to build chemistry and then take advantage of these (organized team activities this month) and come back in training camp, and then we’ll be able to tell how good we’ll be.”
Pro Football Talk notes that with Peterson coming back and the addition of receiver Mike Wallace, it’s reasonable to think the Vikings should improve. But the report also says a lot of that will also fall on Minnesota’s second-year signal caller – Bridgewater.
Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner was on KFAN Wednesday morning. He said the layoff won’t negatively affect Peterson and added that AP’s return should help everyone on the offensive side of the ball.
