It’s August, which means it’s once again the time of year when Brian Dozier morphs into Babe Ruth and starts blasting home runs at an incredible pace.
The former Twins second baseman made his Dodgers debut on Wednesday night and it took him just two at-bats to hit his first homer.
Dozier’s shot tied the game 2-2 fifth inning. He started a two-run seventh inning with a leadoff single and he doubled in the eighth, finishing his Dodger debut by going 3-for-4 at the plate.
“I love the 395 [feet] to center. That’s a cool thing. I’m not used to that.” Dozier said after the game, referring to Dodger Stadium’s shorter fences. Homering to center at Target Field requires a shot of at least 404 feet.
Dozier hit a combined 40 homers in August and September the last two seasons, so his homer on Wednesday should’ve been all but expected.
The L.A. Times reported on Tuesday shortly after the Twins traded Dozier to the Dodgers that Dozier would not be an everyday starter in L.A. We’ll see if that holds true after Dozier’s outstanding first game.
