The Arizona Coyotes had just seven shots on goal through two periods but still found a way to find the back of the net enough times to erase a two-goal deficit in the third period en route to a 4-3 win over the Wild on Tuesday night.
Minnesota led 3-1 in the third before Brainerd native Josh Archibald’s first goal of the season cut the deficit to one, and Michael Grabner tied the game 3-3 with a goal less than four minutes.
A minute and 37 seconds after that it was Archibald scoring the go-ahead goal.
It’s a stunning loss considering Arizona had just one shot on goal in the second period, but the Wild took their foot off the gas and had just five shots on goal in the third while the Brainerd native took it to them.
“It’s tough. I think we got a little comfortable and stopped playing and they took it to us,” said Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon, via Wild.com. “There’s a reason why the game is 60 minutes, and you have to play the full 60.”
It’s also the third time the Wild have blown a third-period lead at home in the last 10 days.
