Brad Marchand scored the game-winning goal 28 seconds into a 3-on-3 overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild Sunday night.
It wasn’t the perfect 2-point night the Wild would’ve liked, but head coach Bruce Boudreau will take it.
“Any point you get at this juncture is gonna be good,” Boudreau said after the game. “We have 7 games left. If we win half of them – we want to win all of them – we should be in good standing.”
Splitting the final seven games would equate to going 3-3-1, which would give the Wild an even 100 points on the season.
In order to miss the playoffs the Wild need to be passed in the standings by Colorado, St. Louis and Los Angeles. Going 3-3-1 and reaching 100 points would force:
- Colorado to go 5-2 or better in 7 games
- St. Louis: 6-1 or better in 7 games
- Los Angeles: 5-0-1 or better in 6 games
So while the Wild’s playoff chances are at 96 percent right now, according to playoffstatus.com, playing five of the final seven games on the road won’t be easy.
