The American League playoff picture is set now that the Red Sox have won the AL East and the Indians have clinched the best record in the league.
It was all decided when the Red Sox defeated the Astros 5-1 Saturday afternoon. The win clinched the AL East and eliminated Houston’s chances of overtaking Cleveland for the best record.
Here’s what the playoff picture looks like now. The AL is set in stone, the National League could still see some changes.
Wild Card: Twins at Yankees
ALDS: Twins/Yankees at Indians
ALDS: Red Sox at Astros
The wild-card game is set for Tuesday night. Both divisional series’ will start on Thursday.
Starting for the Twins and Yankees will be a pair of right-handed All-Stars: Ervin Santana (16-8, 3.28 ERA) for the Twins and Luis Severino (14-6, 2.98 ERA) for the Yankees.
Minnesota is also expected to have right-hander Jose Berrios available out of the bullpen should Santana get into any trouble. Berrios came out of the bullpen in the Twins’ win over the Tigers on Friday night.
Should the Twins advance to the ALDS, Berrios would move back into the starting rotation.
