The slumping Minnesota Wild weren’t able to fight back from a two-goal deficit in the second period and fell on the road to the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 Thursday night.
Mikael Granlund’s 11th goal of the season gave the Wild a 1-0 lead just 7:46 into the first period, but it was a load of goals from there by Columbus as they built a 4-1 lead midway through the second period on goals from Markus Hannikainen, Cam Atkinson, Riley Nash and Artemi Panarin, the latter three of which came during a span of 10:19 in the second period.
Zach Parise’s 12th goal of the year cut the deficit to two but that’s as close as Minnesota would get in what was their fifth loss in the last eight games.
“It’s gotten away from us, and we have to pull it back in,” Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said after the game, via ESPN.
Minnesota is now 14-9-2 this season, which is a bit disappointing considering they were were 11-4-2 after winning 10-of-12 games between Oct. 16 and Nov. 11.
The Wild will look to get back in the win column at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. .
