Blair Walsh is probably the first kicker in NFL history to miss an extra point in a game and still win the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week Award.
Walsh, who missed his fourth extra-point attempt of the season in Sunday’s 49-17 win over the Giants, won the award after kicking five field goals – including a pair from more than 50 yards. His 19 points in the game are the most by a kicker in a game this season.

It’s been a rollercoaster season for Walsh. He signed a four-year, $13 million contract extension before the season began only to be the center of negative attention during a rough preseason, and now he’s had a terrific regular season in which he’s connected on 32 of 37 field-goal attempts.
According to the Vikings, this is Walsh’s fifth career player of the week award. He won it three times as a rookie in 2012 and once more in 2013.
