Former Vikings kicker Blair Walsh – the guy who yanked a 27-yard field goal wide left with 22 seconds left in a 10-9 playoff loss to the Seahawks – is doing his best to not let his past define his future.
Walsh, now kicking with the Seahawks, told Fox 13 in Seattle that he’s feeling good about his future.
“It’s part of my career,” Walsh said of his wide left moment. “It’s part of what I’ve done. It’s a very small part, and that’s how I like to treat it – that kick’s not going to define me.It’s not going to make or break what I’m going to do in the future for the Seahawks.”
Walsh’s optimism is commendable, and while he can make a new name for himself in Seattle, he’ll always be remembered in Minnesota as the kicker who cost the Vikings in the 2015 playoffs.
Walsh missed four extra points and four field goals before the Vikings cut him after a Week 10 loss to the Redskins last season.
Walsh will be on the field against his former team for the first time Friday night when the Vikings play the Seahawks in Week 2 of the preseason. He was 6-for-6 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals in Week 1 of the preseason.
