It wasn’t a huge surprise, but a surprise nonetheless when Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier announced Thursday that Desmond Bishop will be playing outside linebacker.
Bishop, who played inside linebacker with the Packers, was expected to either start at middle linebacker, or compete with Erin Henderson for the job in the middle.
Instead, Henderson will be the man in the middle surrounded by Bishop and Chad Greenway as the outside linebackers.
Frazier says it will be easier for Bishop to learn the Vikings’ defense on the outside.
“Because [Bishop] is coming in so late, what we’re trying to do is get him up to speed on how we do things from a defensive standpoint,” Frazier told the Star Tribune. “We think the best way of getting that done is starting him on the outside.”
Bishop didn’t seem worried about where he’ll play. He told Vikings.com that “at this point just playing football is the best fit for me.”
