It looked like the University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team sealed the deal in the third game of the WCHA playoff series against Bemidji State Sunday, when the Beavers tied the game with 33.8 seconds left. Bemidji pulled out an overtime goal, securing the 2-1 win in Duluth and moving on to the WCHA FINAL FACEOFF.
The two teams were held scoreless for the first 40 minutes of the game, Gopher Sports reports.
UMD defenseman Brigette Lacquette scored the first goal of the night just under five minutes into the third period. Bemidji’s Hanna Moher scored the game-tying goal in the final seconds.
The game-winning overtime shot was made by Kaitlyn Tougas, which was her third goal this season. She leads BSU this season with 27 points – 13 goals and 14 assists, according to BSU Beavers athletics website.
Bulldog players wore No. 49 decals to honor their conditioning coach Julianne “Montana” Vasichek, who had a liver transplant Saturday and is recovering.
This marks the 20th win for the season, which is the first 20-win season a Beaver hockey team has achieved since 2009 – 2010, when the men had 23 wins.

The fifth-seeded Beavers will play the No. 2 Gophers in the semifinals of the WCHA FINAL FACEOFF at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D., on Saturday, March 7. The other semifinal game of the night is between No. 2 seed Wisconsin and No. 3 North Dakota.
The winner will play in the championship game slated for 1 p.m. Sunday, March 8.
