Rachel Banham walked off the court at Williams Arena Sunday – and there went number 1.
That’s the number Banham wore on her Gopher jersey, but it also describes her place in U of M women’s basketball history in categories including scoring and three pointers.
The Lakeville senior’s college career came to an end with Minnesota’s 101-89 loss to South Dakota in a second round game in the Women’s NIT Sunday.
The loss also marked the final game for two other Gopher seniors, Shayne Mullaney and Mikayla Bailey.

Banham scored 3,093 points in her career. That’s more than any other women’s player at Minnesota or any other Big Ten school. It places her sixth all-time nationally.
Banham’s six three pointers on Sunday gave her 354 for her career, also a U of M record.
Minnesota finished the season with a 20-12 record.
Looking ahead to next season, one of the Gophers’ bright lights will be Carlie Wagner. The sophomore from New Richland scored 18 points against South Dakota, passing the 1,000 mark for her career. Wagner was a second team All-Big Ten guard this season.
