The Columbus Blue Jackets went on the road on the second half of a back-to-back and rallied to spoil the Minnesota Wild’s home opener Saturday night in St. Paul.
Minnesota led 3-1 in the second period and 4-2 in the third period but couldn’t hold the lead. Simply, they ran out of gas as they played shorthanded.
Zach Parise, Mikael Granlund, Nino Niederreiter, Charlie Coyle and Marcus Foligno all missed the game with injuries, and the replacements weren’t enough to hold the lead for 60 minutes.
Tyler Ennis’ second goal of the game gave Minnesota a 4-2 lead early in the third period before Columbus scored 57 seconds later and then tied the game 4-4 on a goal by Josh Anderson with 3:37 left in the third period.
Alexander Wennberg scored the winning goal 47 seconds into overtime.
The Wild are now 1-1-2 through four games.
