The Golden Gophers couldn’t pull out a win over the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers, losing the border battle 63-53 Saturday in Madison. The Badgers hold a solid three-game lead at the top of the Big Ten.
The Pioneer Press reports the Badgers are on their longest Big Ten winning streak in more than 70 years. This was their 10th straight win, and they played like it.
KTTC reports Wisconsin senior Josh Gasser hit the 1,000-point mark with his second point in the game. He’s the second Badger to reach 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 250 assists. Michael Finley was the first to hit the milestone.
Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky led the field with 21 points, and Bronson Koening hit a career-high 17 points, the Pioneer Press reports.
The Gophers struggled and were down 35-27 going into halftime.
Nate Mason and Carlos Morris each put up 11 points for Minnesota, Gopher Sports reports.
The Gophers had 17 fouls called against them, next to only seven for the Badgers. Minnesota went to the free throw line once and missed. Wisconsin was 11-14 from the line, according to Gopher Sports.
The Gophers sit at 11th in the Big Ten with a 5-10 Big Ten record, 16-12 overall. They have three more games before the season ends – at Michigan State Thursday; Wisconsin at home on March 5; and Penn State at home on March 8.
