A nice start to the work week for a pair of Minnesota athletes.
The Big Ten named Gophers forward Jordan Murphy the men’s basketball Freshman of the Week after he helped lead Minnesota to an upset victory over then-sixth-ranked Maryland. It was the Gophers’ first conference win of the season.
Across town in St. Paul, ex-Gopher forward Erik Haul of the Wild was named the NHL’s Second Star of the week. Haula racked up a pair of goals and five assists in Minnesota’s four wins last week, including a goal and and two assists in the Wild’s outdoor victory over Chicago on Sunday.
Florida’s Jaromir Jagr was name the First Star.
Both teams are in action on Tuesday as the Wild host the Islanders and the Gophers welcome Rutgers to Williams Arena.
