All the Twins could do in Sunday’s game against the A’s was prevent a shutout win with a single run scored in the night, but Oakland won 14 – 1 and took the series win.
Oakland had five home runs in the series finale, coming off a 3-2 win Saturday. The 14 runs allowed is a season high, the Pioneer Press reports.
Twins starter Tommy Milone struggled against his former team in his first appearance in Oakland since the trade last season. He gave up seven runs in his 2 2/3 innings on the mound, MLB.com reports.
Millone allowed a two-run home from Josh Phegley in the second and gave up back-to-back homers to Billy Butler and Jake Smolinski in the third.
Oakland’s Josh Reddick added a grand slam in the fifth inning with J.R. Graham pitching.

The Twins only had three hits in six innings with Jesse Chavez pitching. Besides pitching struggles, shortstop Danny Santana had two errors.
Shane Robinson had the lone Twins’ RBI, a triple in the ninth, bringing Trevor Plouffe home.
The Twins are now 50-42 and six games behind AL Central leaders the Kansas City Royals.
The Twins have Monday off to regroup, and will start a three-game series against the Angels Tuesday.
Game starts at 9:05 p.m. Kyle Gibson will take the mound, and he’s gone 2-0 so far in July with a 0.86 ERA.
Twins rookie Miguel Sano was out with an ankle injury for Sunday’s game and is expected to be out three to five days.
