Are the Gophers about to lose another high-profile, in-state recruit?
Koi Perich, the safety from Esko who is considered the No. 1 recruit in Minnesota’s high school graduating Class of 2024, made an official visit to Ohio State last weekend and now there are predictions suggesting that he could flip his commitment.

Perich announced his commitment to the Gophers in April, choosing Minnesota over offers from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Washington and Wisconsin. But a stellar senior season in which he led Esko to the state tournament in Minneapolis has garnered more attention, with offers from the Buckeyes, USC and Florida State coming his way.
Perich was set to visit Florida State, but canceled after his visit to Columbus.
“Florida State is canceled. Nothing is a done deal,” Perich said in a text message to the Star Tribune.
The 6-foot-1 safety is rated by 247Sports as a 4-star recruit, ranked 85th overall in the country. Recruiting service On3 ranks Perich 53rd nationally. Before the 2023 prep season, he was included on a list of the “10 biggest freaks” in the 2024 recruiting class.
If Perich withdraws his commitment, he’ll join Prior Lake defensive lineman Jide Abasiri, who on Monday changed his mind after previously verbally committing to the Gophers.
