Anthony Edwards expects big things from the Timberwolves in 2023-23, including a resurgence from Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert – the two 7-footers who faltered in their first year together in Minnesota.
“I know my teammates are going to be ready to show up and play. I’m going to give it 100% and we’re going to have some fun,” Edwards said in his first interview after signing a five-year max contract worth up to $260 million.
His expectations for the upcoming season are simple.
“KAT getting MVP. Rudy getting back to the Defensive Player of the Year level. Jaden being the best defender––he’s already the best defender in the NBA––but 3-point percentage shooting 40 or more and being the best defender again. Mike Conley playing young again,” he said.
He reiterated his points about KAT and Gobert at the end of the interview when Timberwolves television announcer Michael Grady asked him what his message to fans is this season.
“Come out and support. We need y’all support from Day 1 this year, not when we get to the playoffs. We need the stands packed. Show us some love, man,” Edwards said. “Big Rudy going to get back to the defensive player of the year and KAT, we’re going to have KAT on the MVP level this year so it’s going to be dope.”
As for his game…
“Just more. Addition to my game. Showing the world that I got a lot more. A lot more post game, mid post. Even more defense. Getting in better shape and just going out there impacting the game in every way that I can,” he said.
