Anthony Edwards enhanced his rookie of the year campaign on Saturday night, but the New Orleans Pelicans made a late rally to lead them to a 140-136 overtime win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On the same night that LaMelo Ball returned to action for the Charlotte Hornets, Edwards did his best to sway voters in the other direction. The Timberwolves rookie scored a team-high 29 points and added nine rebounds and seven assists to help Minnesota go into halftime tied at 65.
While Edwards was leading the way for the Wolves, the Pelicans were getting help from their former rookie of the year, Zion Williamson.
Williamson had 37 points, nine rebounds and eight assists and Lonzo Ball added 33 points to give the Pelicans a 98-97 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
With the game tied at 107, the Timberwolves went on a 10-0 run that was capped off by an Edwards alley-oop from Ricky Rubio.

But the Pelicans made a 14-4 run of their own and eventually sent the game to overtime. Williamson took over in the extra frame, scoring seven points in overtime to help New Orleans to snap the Wolves’ four-game winning streak.
The Timberwolves (20-45) will host Memphis on Wednesday night.
