Vikings rookie linebacker Anthony Barr will not return this season.
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer revealed today the 22-year-old will have “very minor” knee surgery to repair what he called a “slight meniscus tear.”
Barr started the first 12 games of the year for the Vikings, amassing 70 tackles with four sacks. He also had a game-winning fumble return for a touchdown against the Buccaneers
You can watch Zimmer talk about Barr’s injury here. He will not play Sunday at Miami, or in the regular season finale against the Bears.
The linebacker told the Star Tribune he initially injured it against the Bears on Oct. 16, and graded his rookie season as a “B, B-minus.”
In addition to Barr, the Vikings have several other starters appearing on the Friday injury report.
Here is a rundown of the rest of the Vikings injury report, according to 1500 ESPN.
- Left guard Charlie Johnson is out. He didn’t practice all week after spraining his ankle against the Jets.
- Tight end Kyle Rudolph has been listed as doubtful, because of his sprained ankle. If Rudolph can’t go, it would be the seventh game he’s missed this year due to injury.
- Safety Robert Blanton is listed as questionable, he was a limited participant at Friday’s practice.
Several other Vikings are probable including Linval Joseph and Cullen Loeffler, who missed time this week because of an illness and Chad Greenway, who didn’t practice on Friday because of what Zimmer called a “personal issue.”
