Blaine Boyer is the latest Twin to land on the disabled list.
According to multiple outlets, Boyer (elbow) will be placed on the 15-day DL and hard-throwing right-hander Michael Tonkin will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester.
Blaine Boyer to the DL, Michael Tonkin recalled. About time Tonkin got another shot. #mntwins

Boyer is a pitch-to-contact reliever whereas Tonkin can miss bats, striking out an average of 10.5 batters per nine innings. Boyer’s strikeout rate is less than half of that.
Blaine Boyer owns a 4.35 FIP and a 4.7 K/9 this season. Tonkin throws significantly harder, owns a 10.5 K/9. Should be w/ #MNTwins thru Sept

Boyer has a 4.35 ERA in 51 appearances this season. After allowing five earned runs in his first four appearances with Minnesota, he settled into a stretch of 22 appearances where he allowed just one run.
Phil Hughes was placed on the DL with a back issue on Thursday, and the team shortly after announced a rather significant shakeup to the starting rotation.
Trevor May will start Friday’s series opener against Cleveland; Tyler Duffey was recalled from Triple-A Rochester and will start Saturday; Tommy Milone will start Sunday in his first appearance since going on the DL with a forearm strain in July.
