An NBA analyst thinks the Minnesota Timberwolves had one of the best offseasons in the league.
TNT NBA analyst David Aldridge ranks the Timberwolves offseason as the fourth best in the entire league.
It was an active offseason.
The Wolves added both Kentucky big man Karl-Anthony Towns and Duke point guard Tyus Jones in the first round of the NBA Draft. Minnesota also signed Euroleague MVP Nemanja Bjelica and veteran point guard Andre Miller, and acquired Damjan Rudez in a trade from Indiana.
Aldridge writes that makes a “pretty good haul” and will give Timberwolves president and coach Flip Saunders depth at every position.
Aldridge ranks only San Antonio, Cleveland and the Los Angeles Clippers ahead of Minnesota’s offseason.
The additions of Towns and Jones made it three straight years the Wolves have had two first rounders – starting with Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng in 2013, and Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine in 2014.
Aldridge doesn’t expect the Wolves to be in the playoff hunt just yet, though.
“There will be a lot of bad nights in Minny next season, but there will surely be eight to 12 games when the pups are snapping and frisky, and blow someone’s doors off.”
But the offseason may not be done just yet. The Wolves are also expected to hire former Pistons physical therapist Arnie Kander.
Kander resigned earlier this summer after 23 years with the Pistons. According to 1500 ESPN, Kander is one of the best body mechanics in the league and will start with Minnesota in September.
