Former Minnesota Vikings superstar and retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in a ceremony at the White House on Friday.
The Medal of Freedom is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a civilian in the United States, and Page was among seven to receive the award from President Donald Trump (Trump begins talking about Page at the 14:45 mark in the video).

In addition to serving on the Minnesota Supreme Court for 22 years, Page and his late wife, Diane, started the Page Education Foundation, which provides financial assistance to students in exchange for volunteer service in the community. He’s also co-authored multiple children’s books with his daughter.
Page played 11 seasons with the Vikings during his 15-year career and was named All-NFL six times, went to nine straight Pro Bowls and was named league MVP in 1971.

“Justice Alan Page is an accomplished jurist, athlete, and philanthropist. After a successful college football career at the University of Notre Dame, he played 15 years in the National Football League with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. He started in four Super Bowls, was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1971, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988. While playing for the Vikings, he obtained his law degree and practiced law during the off-season. After retiring from the NFL in 1981, Justice Page practiced law full-time before winning a seat on the Minnesota Supreme Court in 1992. He served for more than 20 years. Since 1988, his Page Education Foundation has provided scholarships to nearly 7,000 students.”
In September, the NFL Players Association renamed its annual community award after Page, saying it makes “perfect sense” because “every NFL player can look to Alan Page as an example on and off the field.”
