The agent for Twins pitching prospect Alex Meyer believes his client is ready to move for the Major Leagues.
Scott Boras praised the Twins for how they have handled their top pitching prospect.
“The Minnesota Twins are very good at making good baseball decisions,” Boras told the Pioneer Press on Monday. “When you have a pitcher that big and strong, how you manage him is important. They’re usually late bloomers when they’re 6-8 guys and the Randy Johnsons of the world, and that’s good.”
Meyer made his Target Field debut on Sunday as part of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Futures Game. He threw a total of four pitches during the fifth inning of the game.
“From what I saw (Sunday), it’s going rather well. I don’t think many guys hit 97-98 (miles per hour) on that gun I saw.”
Meyer is 5-4 with a 3.43 earned run average in 18 starts at Triple-A Rochester and Boras thinks he is ready for the promotion to the majors. He has had some impressive performances in Rochester.
“You always have to have the ability to take bad days with the good,” Boras told the Pioneer Press. “You always have to have the ability to really get your secondary pitches in place and command the fastball. I think he’s reached that point now where he’s ready to take on all levels.’
As for Meyer himself, he isn’t concerning himself with when he might return to Target Field.

“That’s not for me to decide,” Meyer told 1500 ESPN. “I’m just taking everything a day at a time and (Twins general manager) Terry Ryan, that’s up to him. Whenever he thinks I’m ready. Hopefully, whenever they need somebody, he keeps me in consideration. That’s really the only thing I can worry about.”
Meyer or another one of the Twins Triple-A pitchers could get a call-up for the game on July 22, if Ricky Nolasco isn’t ready to go.
