The cash-strapped Minnesota Vikings won’t be asking tight end Kyle Rudolph to restructure his contract and take a pay cut in 2019, according to his agent.
“Despite rumors, the Vikings are not in negotiations with Kyle Rudolph, have not asked him to take a pay reduction and have told us explicitly that Rudy will not only be on the team this year, but hopefully for years to come,” agent Brian Murphy said in a statement to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The 29-year-old tight end caught 64 passes for 634 yards and four touchdowns last season, and 2019 is the final year of his five-contract when he is due to make $7.625 million.
Cap space is a big issue for the Vikings entering free agency, with Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press noting that with only $4.94 million available, players like safety Andrew Sendejo ($5.5 million) and Everson Griffen ($11 million) could be cut to free up space.
Cornerback Trae Waynes ($9 million) has also been rumored to be on the trading block.
NFL free agency begins at 3 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 14.
