The U of M men’s basketball team was banished from Atlantis by a bunch of Blue Devils. The Gophers absorbed their first loss of the young season at the hands of fifth-ranked Duke, 89-71. They’ll continue in the Battle 4 Atlantis holiday tournament in the Bahamas on Friday.
The box score shows Duke’s Seth Curry lit up the Gophers for 25 points, while Rodney Williams, Jr., led the way for Minnesota with 16 and seven rebounds.
For Coach Tubby Smith the result does nothing to ease the sting found in Thursday morning’s paper. Tubby nudged out one of his U of M coaching peers and one of his own players to be christened Turkey of the Year by the Star Tribune’s Patrick Reusse.
