How bad was the Gophers basketball loss to Ohio State Wednesday night?
Let’s just say that it was worse than Sunday’s debacle in Iowa (a 72-51 loss), and when the reserves outscore the starters — it’s never good.
In Columbus: Gopher Reserves 25, Gopher Starters 20. Buckeyes, 71.
The soundbites after the game were what one would expect.
Coach Tubby Smith said his team didn’t have the “mental toughness” needed to compete. Andre Hollins said: “We’re not playing our best basketball.”
A quick check of the Twitterverse shows some agree with Mr. Hollins:
Kinda glad that there is no #Gophers game this weekend. Allows me to watch the Daytona 500 and the Oscar without constant despair.

By my count, 142 MN high school basketball teams played last night. 111 of them scored more points than the #Gophers did 2nite.

In #Gophers last 9 games, we've only scored 60+ twice.

Sad to say, but watching Waterworld was more enjoyable than #Gophers bball tonight. It's gotten THAT bad…

So I fell asleep during the #Gophers game. I have woken up to find that Oto Osenieks is now 2-for-26 from three-point range this season.
