There’s another major move at Target Field.
After 52 years with the Twins, former University of Minnesota pitching standout Jim Rantz is announcing that he will retire at the end of the year.
Rantz, 75, has been Minnesota’s minor leagues director since 1986. He first joined the organization in 1960, when he signed his first pro contract with the Washington Senators, who then moved to Minnesota in 1961. After spending five years as a player and an manager, Rantz joined the front office following the 1965 season.
In 2007, he was elected to the Twins Hall of Fame.
The Star Tribune reports the Twins have named Brad Steil as the interim farm director. Steil has been with the Twins for the past 12 years, including the past five as Rantz’s top assistant overseeing the team’s minor league system.
