Fresh off a Super Bowl win, Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk announced his retirement today, according to the Baltimore Sun.
The St. Paul native was drafted by Minnesota out of Harvard in 1998, and spent his first 11 NFL seasons with the Vikings.
Birk, 36, played in the NFL for 15 seasons and won a Super Bowl in his final campaign with a victory in Super Bowl XLVII over the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans.
Birk says he has “a lot to be grateful for.”
Asked why he’s retiring now, Birk kept it simple: “I’m old.”
